A couple of links from the Noosphere Discord, just because sharing links is how I add them to my brain:

Can you.. concisely summarize what Noosphere is? Skimming their public-facing material and it's all a bit.. inscrutable.

Ivan Reese 2023-01-25 02:42:47

I am inscruted by it.

Ivan Reese 2023-01-25 02:43:22

I have noose fear, sure, but who doesn't?

I can't quite tell either. My best guess: it's the idea of sister wikis (wiki.c2.com/?AboutSisterSites) rethought for a world 20 years later, with IPFS and a few other things.

Mostly I'm there because Gordon Brander posts fun links.

I saw Jerry facilitate conversations on stage at a TfT one-day conf at Betaworks NYC, Gordan Brander had presented Noosphere too.

Jerry and his 2nd brain are seamless. It's kind of amazing to watch live. He's been at it for so long that there really is decades of connections at his fingertips and he uses the brain to deepen the conversation and the conversation to add to the brain, and he's able to do it without breaking presence/flow somehow.

2023 Rough Questions

Two overarching questions:

  • How can we reason about notations/interfaces/editors? So that:
  • We can construct correct interfaces
  • We can distill what we are trying to say into more direct representations
  • We can explore the consequences of what we are trying to say more directly
  • How can we construct more direct analogies for computation?

Looks like it's getting turned into s-expressions under the hood..

Kartik Agaram 2023-01-26 14:48:27

Oh that's very tasteful use of sweet-exprs, Jack. Just one \\ in the whole thing.

QueryStorm: C# in Excel

A fairly complete IDE that can work directly with Excel data via LINQ, with extension capabilities of its own to boot.

Natural language is the lazy user interface

" Just slap a textbox on it!"

The tyranny of the blank textbox is real.

Mark Bernstein (who has been doing Tools for Thought stuff for decades, and has had a product in that space since 2001) gives a very rich history of TfT in the hypertext/notetaking vein:
